What three High Value Activities did I do today to realize my Optimistic Number?

High Value Activities:

  • Things we do for business with intentional outcomes
  • Things we do for/with family with intentional outcomes
  • Each should have a time value, a monitory value, or both

Intentional outcome examples for Gerry:

  • Lynne and I will have date night every Saturday
    • We will alternate who picks every other Saturday:
      • Where we eat
      • Where we go
      • How we spend the day
  • We assign specific results to business gatherings
    • I am going to present at Sharon’s HHH meeting.  I want to meet three new people.  I want all in the audience to take away something that they can apply tomorrow to their business and personal lives.

I will bet that there are some people in this room that came here tonight with their only intention being “to attend because Sharon invited me.”  When we come to meetings like this with specific outcomes and expectations we can at the end of the meeting evaluate the results.  We can ask, “Did the meeting deliver the measurable outcomes we listed?  Did we meet the people we wanted to meet?  Did we get the three referrals we wanted?  Did we meet two referral partners?  Did we spend 90 minutes at the event?  Did we have fun?”

The Optimistic number is based on the SRO formula:

S is Survival

R is Realistic

O is Optimistic

We all have a Survival number.  It is the minimum number of dollars we need to just get by.  What we need for food, the car note, mortgage payment, etc.

Most agree that with a little work we could double our Survival number and create a Realistic number that is two times the Survival number.  Would everyone agree that with a little work you could double your Survival number?

The Optimistic number is four times the Survival number.  Please do the math, then think about that number.  Is that a pretty big number?

So from today forward this is what you need to do to make this work:

  • First thing in the morning ask the AM question
  • Write on a yellow pad the three High Value Activities you will do that day
  • At the end of the day ask the PM question
  • Score your results
    • IMPORTANT, note the result score should not reflect the specifics of the intention.  The score should only reflect performing the act.  As example, when going to a networking event our goal for the event is:
      • 2 referral partners AND we only get 1 referral partner
      • 1 new business referral AND we get NO new business referrals
      • invest 90 minutes AND we spend two hours
      • give 3 referrals AND we give 5 referrals

All of the four bullet points above allow you to score this as COMPLETE.  You keep track of your INTENTIONS at the end of each month when listing on your Monthly MATRIX Spread Sheet (see below.)  Your daily score will only consider completing the three High Value Activities.

  • The score each day should look like this
    • 3/3 equals a GREAT DAY
    • 2/3 equals a GREAT DAY
    • 1/3 equals a GREAT DAY
    • 0/3 equals a GREAT DAY

Why we score every day as a GREAT DAY

  • We only have control of asking the questions.  We cannot control MURPHY.  The car breaks down, we get a flat tire so we miss the networking meeting. The networking meeting was a High Value Activity before we found the flat tire that we now cannot get to.

Here is what will happen when you do this:

  • You will meet your Optimistic Number every 30 days
  • You will know why you did not realize your Optimistic Number
  • You will increase your optimistic number
