Can You Smell the Desperation?
When you say to your target market what they want to hear, YOU get what you want and THEY get what they want. This is the essence of how our marketing business works at INTEGRITY. Interestingly enough it works well for helping the seasoned unemployed get jobs.
When it comes to the future employed and the statement “When you say to your target market what they want to hear, YOU get what you want and THEY get what they want,” our target market is the future employer. We create the “want” as we defer from using job titles to using a statement that focuses on what the future employed wants to deliver to their employer. These are the results that the future employer needs from the soon to be hired.
Over the last few years I have had the privilege of helping many people with career choices. I am thrilled to say that nearly 100 percent of those I have helped are employed today or own their business. Much of the success is due to those who have adopted the phrase, “When you say to your target market what they want to hear, YOU get what you want and THEY get what they want.” Practicing full integrity, some of our conversations have led those we have helped to alter their initial goals for something that they can qualify for today. When altering those initial goals cash flow is more likely to happen sooner than later.
Last week Lynne and I were having lunch at a local Mexican Cantina when we observed two men at another table. One was obviously interviewing the other for a job. The interviewee was so excited about the opportunity to interview that he was nearly sitting in the other gentleman’s lap. A few times I thought I saw him nearly coming out of his chair. I have heard the phrase “positive body language,” however, this fellow was overly eager. He was so demonstrative that he appeared desperate for the job, any job. You could visibly see the interviewer shrinking away from the potential employee. It was hard to watch.
My tip for today is relax and enjoy the interview. Create urgency by being prepared to relax and enjoy the experience of interviewing. How do you prepare? Practice the interview process on paper, in person, and with family/friends.
On paper write out the questions you anticipate. There are only right answers, yet there are always better answers. To solve the mystery of “What is the best answer?” select answers that deliver the truth and include what the interviewer might be looking for in your answer. Write out the answer. Then work on your delivery in front of a mirror practicing the answers. Record your responses and listen to yourself. Gather family and friends to ask the prepared questions live. Answer those. Get feedback from those questions. Ask your family member or friend to pepper the prepared questions with questions that they create.
Trust me. After nearly 40 years of work experience:
- being offered five jobs at graduation in 1974
- changing companies five times in 20 years as an engineer
- changing career paths twice in 20 years as a self-employed
Relax and enjoy the interview. You will be amazed by the positive results!
