Dirty Socks Sucker for Internet Service
Last year when we moved to Arizona I wrote this https://www.integritysd.com/articles/a-shout-out-from-arizona/ article about the exceptional service I received from Comcast, Marana, Arizona. I would like to report that the good service continues as I went to renew it today. However, now Comcast has decided to remove the personal care I received from Marana, Arizona local representative James Allen and substitute it with a Customer Loyalty Program which is handled over the phone to increase rates.
First a little background about my pervious experience with Internet providers before moving to Arizona. Where we lived in Oceanside, California we had access to one provider. It is the company that rhymes with socks. They manipulated the annual contract every year adding a few dollars to the cost of doing business. Every year it was a few dollars of increased fees often not enough to spend 30 to 60 minutes on hold waiting for the customer service representative to come to the call. I always debated if it was worth the time to wait on the phone for the representative or just pay the additional monthly fees. Additional monthly fees I am always reminded are times 12. Those fees add up to be a substantial increase for often times less service than the previous contract. When moving to Arizona we could choose who provides our Internet service. I swore that I would never use the socks company again if I could choose. I asked my neighbors and my realtor who were their providers. I received good and bad comments across the board about the big three. The lesser evil I was told was Comcast. Then I received a welcome to the community from James Allen by way of a hand bill welcoming me to the community.
Talk about customer loyalty, James Allen is loyal to his customers, especially to me. He took the time today to text me, making me feel important as soon as I texted him my concerns. He wants to save customers for Comcast. Last year James told me that all I needed to do was call him before my Comcast contract expired (June 5, 2018) to maintain the same plan and same rate. When a recent promotion hit my mail box from Comcast I was reminded to make the call. I first spoke to Alex in India. She told me that my plan was no longer available. When I protested and told her I wanted what James promised me she then turned me over to Customer Loyalty where I spoke to Paulette. She told me that my plan was no longer available.
She then went on to attempt to match my existing plan. By now I had been on the phone for nearly 30 minutes. Once she had a plan that would cost me approximately $5 more per month she then went on to tell me that I needed to call back in 30 days to maintain my existing contract which expires June 5, 2018. Therefore, to save $5 for the next 30 days I would have to spend another 30 minutes on the phone in 30 days. Comcast could not place or reserve my new contract while I was on the phone today. Comcast wants its loyal customers to get frustrated on the phone so that they stay loyal customers by default. I am now frustrated with Comcast and will do all I can to find another provider. I will also contact the Federal Communication Commission and file a complaint.
