Improved Networking Through Education Generating Relationships Increases The Yield

DO YOU BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ?

I was having a conversation on a Friday night with a family friend some months ago.  I shared with him a health concern.  He had never heard of this issue.  I have had some experience with this health concern in the recent past.  Family members had experienced it, and it is one of those things that age causes us to live with.  What surprised me and caused me to think was his response to how I handled this medical (his words) issue.

I went to the Internet to discover homeopathic suggestions for how to live more comfortably with this age related issue.  Our friend suggested I go to the doctor.  When I told him that I got all the information I needed to live with this age related occurrence, he then asked me, “Do you believe everything you read?”

Questioning our belief systems should be a common/continuing process that we evaluate regularly.  Belief in a religious dogma, our process for earning an income, who we interact with in business/personal life, our surroundings, etc. should be on our radar for scrutiny.

Back to my medical issue. I did all of the things I read and then evaluated them over a 30 to 60 day period.  They included adding a fish oil pill to my morning routine, adding green tea, eliminating coffee, continuing my exercise, and doing some specific stimulation in the area of concern.  The results have been amazing!  Days now go by without me even thinking about this issue.  The symptoms have nearly disappeared.  I have added coffee back into my life with minimal effect.  Which brings me to the larger point; many of us put so much trust in doctors.  How about putting trust in other professionals that can deliver a greater/proven return on our financial/time investment?

As an example, there is a statistic that claims that 93% of our population needs a financial plan.  When you plan for retirement, create a nest egg for your family, or just enjoy a vacation, these can all be part of a financial plan.  There are Certified Financial Planners on nearly every corner.  They are very easy to access.  Most people avoid creating a financial plan because they:

  • believe that somehow they will survive
  • think the government will help them when in need
  • are too embarrassed to seek help
  • are just too lazy
  • read something on the Internet that tells them there is no need to plan for the future

Our population suffers from obesity.  We as a country are extreme over weight.  Over one third of our population is considered obese.  Gyms, running clubs, bicycle trails, cross fit, and yoga facilities are also on nearly every street.  We are overweight and have the best resources at our feet waiting to be used.  There are a number of reasons for obesity in the United States, which include:

  • ignorance
  • laziness
  • poor eating habits

We have experts available to help us get fit.  Education, motivation, and nutrition are there to get us healthy yet we find any and every reason to excuse success to choose failure.  In exchange to dissuade our obesity we look for simple fixes.  A pill, supplement, or ignoring it becomes a way of living.

As a society we should believe that we are the only ones who can control our destiny.  My goal here is to suggest that we each take more time to evaluate our lives and where we can get information from to improve our well being.  We are in this together rather than as individuals.  Get help from a spiritual leader.  Purchase time with a health coach. Enroll in a gym that allows you to make commitments in advance with a trainer.  Make appointments and set small goals for success.

You can read from any resource.  You can get verbal communication from a friend or a doctor.  All the information you receive should be measured and managed.  Use ALL the resources available!  That means on the date you start (my issue started at 5:30 AM on June 16, 2013,) write down your procedures and the results you anticipate.  When you get those results, celebrate them.  If the results after a set, predetermined amount of time are less than expected, make measurable changes.  After a set time, measure your results again.

When working as a baker making donuts, I learned a valuable lesson.  When measuring the water in a five quart pail, if I left as little as one sixteenth of an inch out of the mix, the dough became too stiff.  The master baker (my father) taught me this.  He knew right away why the dough was too stiff.  He had measured and managed the process for over 40 years.  Become a believer in what you read by practicing with the support from professionals or other service providers (as in the Internet) to deliver the results you deserve.  Do this in your personal and business lives for success.
