Is Your Pump Primed for Spring?
The New Year is just behind us. Everything is new or renewing itself for the spring and summer months ahead. Is your business ready for this awakening or are you going to repeat the same things you did this time last year expecting different results?
As I was looking through this morning’s newspaper I was reminded of the concept and practical application of priming the pump. As I write this I am also reminded of my age in years, thinking that many of you reading this may know little of the actual application for the process, so let me briefly explain. Typically a well is drilled into the ground where a hand pump is placed at the top of the well. Water carried from a pond, brought in a separate container from a remote location is poured into the top of the pump. The water fills the pump and pipe. When the pump handle is activated by hand a siphon is created drawing the water in the well to the surface where a pail collects the water.
I am always reminded of this concept in the spring, especially as it applies to our businesses. Spring is also the time of Business Shows and Expositions. This week seven chambers of commerce will be joining forces to bring business together to offer networking opportunities. The annual local women’s show will be held in May. Watch your local news resources for many ore coming during the next few months. These are wonderful places to meet and greet your potential customers. You will see the latest and greatest ways to do better business.
As we access how we invest our time, money, energy, and creativity what are the best ways to increase our database to attain the greatest return on our investment? First, we must be measuring how these four resources are being invested. Second, we need to set standards for these returns to access the results. When your database has grown to 1000 or more are you getting your greatest return by repeating what you did last year? Is your greater return going to come from doing something different? Possibly attending an event where your Pure Target Market is present might give you a greater return on your investment of time, money, energy, and creativity!
Much like priming the pump, once the pump is primed water will flow. Much like priming your business with a Pure Target Market the business will flow! If the business is flowing your “business pump” is primed. Discover what is working and repeat that. When going to business shows is getting you the business results you want continue to participate. When going to shows that deliver less than the result you want find a different venue to invest your time, money, energy, and creativity.
The significance of this article is to access and re-access the results you get from investing your time, money, energy, and creativity. Much like springtime discovering the renewal it is also time to discover what will make your business sing. Continuing to pour water into a hole, which leads to something with less than the desired result, running water, is an investment of time, money, energy, and creativity that becomes a wasted effort. So it is true when you invest your time, money, energy, and creativity in networking that delivers less than the desired outcome. Find the venue that works for you. Create repetitive habits to generate proven results that will deliver all the prospects and referrals you deserve. Prime the pump so that you can enjoy the fruits of your labor.
